Newsletter – 23 Jan 2017 – Winter Weather

Dear Parents / Carers,

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and managed to stay warm in the temperatures we are currently experiencing. A few reminders detailed below, particularly regarding the current weather conditions.

Please ensure that children are adequately dressed for school given the extremely cold temperatures. Whilst we ensure that the school building is heated appropriately, all children need to be wearing suitable clothing including a jumper or cardigan in accordance with the school uniform list. ALL children need to have a coat / outerwear for playtimes and lunchtimes as we must carry out our responsibilities in ensuring the children are properly dressed for outdoors in the cold weather.

Please ensure that your child also has suitable PE kit for the colder weather in the event that they are still going outside for lessons.

It has been noted that many children are coming to school in trainers. The school uniform list states that the children should wear black or navy shoes. Since September, we have been talking to the children about following rules and being proud of our school uniform and there have been some issues regarding the fact that this is not always being followed. Of course, there will always be the odd occasion where it is unavoidable to send your child to school in trainers, and I am grateful to you for explaining these situations to me or other members of staff. If you do have a need to send your child to school in trainers then please do discuss it with me.

Paths and Roads

When paths and roads are icy, staff will endeavour to salt as much of the pathway as possible. As you know, we do not have a caretaker to help us, so school staff arrive early to ensure a safe pathway is made for you to access the school building. Please ensure that when bringing the children onto the school grounds, you follow the gritted pathway into the grounds and buildings. Please remind your child not to walk on the parts of the paths and playground that have not been gritted as we cannot take responsibility if the gritted path is not followed. Keeping everyone safe is our main priority and we thank you for your cooperation.

Closure in bad weather

In the unlikely event that we should we have to close the school in the event of bad or extreme weather, we will inform Spire FM of our closure. We will also put a banner on the school’s website to inform you of any necessary closure. At the earliest opportunity, we will send an SMS to you to inform you further. Our aim is to remain open where possible, but we have a large percentage of staff who travel from a great distance to get to work and the safety of all is our primary concern.

A polite reminder of the change in safeguarding arrangements which ensure we know exactly who is in the building at any one time and therefore protect our children from any potential harm. We remind you that NO PARENTS OR VISITORS should be inside the building at any time without signing in at the school office first. If you need to speak to your child’s teacher or another adult, or help your child to look for something, please come to the main office and sign in.

Breakfast and After School Clubs

We are very proud to be able to offer before and after school provision in our Breakfast and After School clubs. The children thoroughly enjoy these clubs and they offer an opportunity for children to engage in a variety of activities with others. We do have places available at both clubs – please speak to the office for further details.

Thank you for all your cooperation and support in all that the school aims to achieve and necessary safety procedures.

Kind regards

Ms. L. Tight, Headteacher
